Sydney Romero is a 5-foot-7 professional softball middle infielder from San Diego, California. She was acquired in the 3rd Round of the 2026 Expansion Draft following a collegiate career at Oklahoma.


Personal Life


Career: Named assistant coach at the University of Oregon in 2023 after spending the 2023 campaign at Duke. Won two NCAA championships as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma.

Family: Sister, Sierra, is also a professional softball player. Brother, Michael, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2022 MLB Draft. Sister, Sophia, plays softball at Boise State.

Background: Has dual citizenship in Mexico and the United States. Wears No. 2 in honor of Derek Jeter.

Professional Experience


Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball, AUX & AUSL (2021–2025)

2025 AUSL All-Star Cup: Collected 678 leaderboard points. Ranked fourth among all hitters with a .345 average, tallying 10 hits, 16 total bases, and a .958 OPS. Hit safely in 9-of-10 games.

2025 AUSL Regular Season: Logged a starting assignment in 19 games, helping the Talons win the first AUSL title. Posted a .308 batting average with 16 hits, six doubles, one home run, and seven RBIs.

2024 Championship Season: Authored a ninth-place finish with 1,436 leaderboard points. Posted a 10-5 game record and hit .217 with a league-high six doubles.

2023 Championship Season: Closed the season in sixth place with 1,600 points. Named Game MVP four times, hit three home runs, and drove in 11 runs (second in the league).

2022 Championship Season: Tallied 1,252 leaderboard points. Set an AU single-season record with eight doubles, batting .412 with a league-high 21 hits.

2022 AUX Season: Accumulated 1,260 points for a sixth-place finish. Batted .326 with two home runs and nine RBIs.

2021 Championship Season: Registered 932 leaderboard points during her rookie season.


Other Professional Experience (2019)

NPF: No. 3 overall selection in the 2019 NPF Draft by the USSSA Pride. Earned All-NPF honors after leading the Pride to the league championship.


International Experience (2020)

Team Mexico: Member of Team Mexico at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hit .222 with four hits, including a home run.

College Experience: Oklahoma (2016–2019)


Career Statistics: Oklahoma’s all-time leader in at-bats (853), doubles (58), and sacrifice flies (13). Ranks second in school history with 320 hits and 121 extra-base hits.


Awards & Honors

All-America: Two-time First-Team NFCA All-America selection.

Conference Honors: Four-time NFCA All-Region and All-Big 12 Conference honoree. Honored as the 2019 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year.
