Juneteenth was celebrated across the Athletes Unlimited Softball League on Friday as teams in Texas and Oregon took the field with opportunities to honor the holiday and reflect on its significance. Community organizations were recognized in both markets as part of the league’s efforts to celebrate and support Black communities.

The celebration carried special meaning in Round Rock, Texas, where the Texas Volts hosted the Utah Talons just a few hours from Galveston, the birthplace of Juneteenth. Fans received commemorative tote bags inspired by the original Juneteenth flag. Special guests Alyajah Gray, winner of the Miss Juneteenth of Central Texas Pageant, and Teria Broadous, organizer of the Opal Lee Walk for Freedom in Austin, participated in the festivities. Volts catcher Michaela Edenfield also honored the occasion with a special Juneteenth-inspired makeup look for the game.

Here’s a look at some of the sights from Juneteenth celebrations around the AUSL, including special moments from the Volts’ home game in Round Rock.
